Creating a watchlist can allow you to track companies and stocks that you find interesting. You can check them every morning and get a quick glimpse of how things have changed.
You can also save a price target for your stocks and quickly see when the stock price nears your target. It's the best way to stay disciplined. AAII has a great article on the process and benefits of setting price targets.
This video tutorial can be helpful for you.

Start a New Watchlist
Click the + New Watchlist
option in the watchlist dropdown to start a new watchlist.
Add Stocks to Your Watchlist
It's easy to add stocks to your new watchlist. You can Search and Add stocks, "Fork," an idea, or Bulk Add Stock Symbols.
Method #1: Fork an Idea
Forking an idea will create a new watchlist based on the stocks currently listed in the idea. finbox.io maintains an ever-expanding list of ideas that you can use to kickstart your list. These ideas include everything from holdings of famous investors like Warren Buffett to popular investment themes like "Breakthrough Biotechs."
Method #2: Create Your Own
You can also start with an empty watchlist and add stocks by searching for them. First, you need to name your new list by clicking the + New Watchlist
a button I mentioned earlier.
Clicking the + New Watchlist
the button will bring up a pop-up that has the "Create a custom watchlist" button depicted below.
You can then search for the stocks you would like to add and click Save Changes
to see your list:
Method #3: Bulk Import Tickers to Your Watchlist
Once you've started a watchlist, if you know the stock tickers you want to add, use the bulk import utility to speed up the process:
You simply type in the stock tickers or copy / paste them from a CSV or Excel file. Just separate the tickers using space, commas, or newlines.
We'll search for the tickers you enter in our database and return the matches. Click Add to Watchlist
in the next step to complete the import process.
Your watchlist should look similar to the one below:
Create and Edit Views
Once you've created a watchlist, you will see several "Views" that highlight key data on your stocks. You can customize these views as you see fit.
Start a New View
To start a new view and add the metrics you want to review, click the + New View
button:
Add Columns
To edit the columns in a view, click the big green (+) button:
Set The Period or Date
Once you've added a column to your view, you can also specify the period for the data points shown in the column for most metrics supported on Finbox.
Periods allow you to select the reporting interval and calendar date of data you'd like to see. You can search for the period types supported for a metric using the period types listed in Column F in the metrics listing spreadsheet. The column still defaults to the latest default period when no period is provided.
The following table summarizes supported period formats:
For example, revenue is reported quarterly and annually, as determined by a company's fiscal calendar. The last ten years of annual revenue figures are represented by the periods FY-9 to FY. Similarly, the previous 8 quarters of reported quarterly revenue is represented by periods FQ-7 to FQ.
A metric like stock price ( "asset_price_close_adj") has data available with a daily frequency. To retrieve the stock price 30 days ago, you specify the period as "D-30". You can also use a specific date like "2020-03-31" for the period.
Remove Columns
To remove columns in a view, click the big green (+) button. Once the pop-up opens, you can hover over the metric and remove the column using the Trash icon.
Reorder Columns
To reorder the columns in a view, click the big green (+) button. Once the pop-up opens, you can drag the metrics to arrange them as you want:
Reorder Views
You can reorder the position of any view by using the drag handle that will become visible on hover:
Filter List Based On Column Values
You can use the input under column titles to filter rows by values in the column. For instance, entering "> 10" will filter the table so that only rows with values greater than 10 are displayed:
For a text and boolean (True / False) columns like Sector, we support all of the filters above:
- You can enter a search string. E.g. "Information"
- The "!" operator for negative matches. E.g. "! Information"
For numeric columns like Revenue, we support the following operators:
- The "=" operator for values equal to a number. E.g. "= 10"
- The ">=" operator for greater than or equal to a number. E.g. ">= 10"
- The "<=" operator for less than or equal to a number. E.g. "<= 10"
- The ">" operator for greater than a number. E.g. "> 10"
- The "<" operator for less than a number. E.g. "< 10"
For date columns like Period End Date, we support all of the filters above:
- The "=" operator for values equal to date. E.g. "= 2020-03-31"
- The ">=" operator for greater than or equal to date. E.g. ">= 2020-03-31"
- The "<=" operator for less than or equal to date. E.g. "<= 2020-03-31"
- The ">" operator for greater than date. E.g. "> 2020-03-31"
- The "<" operator for less than date. E.g. "< 2020-03-31"
